Good day for state's veterans could have been better.

It was a good day for Wisconsin Veterans and their families yesterday at the state Capitol, as Governor Doyle signed into law six bills pertaining to veterans. Veterans from Wisconsin will be able to attend any UW system school without paying tuition, and the surviving spouses and children of veterans killed in action will also be able to get a secondary education in Wisconsin without paying tuition.

Here's more. http://www.madison.com/tct/news/index.php?ntid=85673&ntpid=1

But it could have been better had the Republican leadership in the State Assembly allowed SB 609 up for a floor vote. That bill would have provided funding for almost 2,000 Wisconsin National Guard troops to receive proper body armor upon leaving for Iraq. Pentagon reports state that 80% of Marine casualties could have been prevented had they been issued proper body armor. How dissapointing that the Republican leadership didn't seem to want to help our troops.

On a side note, my Uncle Zeke and I are helping out with the Mt. Hope Veterans Memorial fundraiser in Mt. Hope on June 11th. They will be having a hog roast, raffle, and auction to raise funds to get a memorial erected in the village park in rememberance of those who served. It is Sunday, June 11th, from 11am to 7pm. See ya there!
