Dickeyville – Last week State Representative Phil Garthwaite formally announced his bid for reelection in Wisconsin’s 49th Assembly District. Garthwaite’s campaign will focus on the work he has done to build local businesses, create jobs and protect economic infrastructure throughout the area. Garthwaite has been a strong advocate for economic development and is looking forward to bringing real results to his constituents in the future.
“As someone who was born and raised here in Southwest Wisconsin, I understand the challenges our community faces and why we have such huge potential for the future,” Garthwaite said. “It has been a privilege to fight so that our voices are heard in Madison.”
During the most recent legislative session, Garthwaite helped create family-supporting jobs through investments in local infrastructure, including securing the reconstruction of Highway 61, authorizing numerous smaller road and bridge projects, and fighting to ensure that the new Cassville ferry moves ahead as planned. Other accomplishments included helping to create over $200 million in business boosting tax credits and incentives to help businesses grow and retain workers. Garthwaite also closed corporate tax loopholes that for decades have enabled Wall Street corporations to evade Wisconsin taxes, pushing the burden onto small businesses and working families.
“I stand by my accomplishments and am proud of the work I’ve done to get Southwest Wisconsin ready for strong long term economic recovery. I am running for reelection because I want to keep working to create jobs, support businesses, and increase economic development right here in our corner of the state,” Garthwaite said. “I have a consistent track record of reaching across the aisle to get real results for our area and my door will always be open.”
Garthwaite has already begun his campaign efforts which will continue until the polls close on November 2nd. His campaign office will be opening in August in the Platteville area.
